Reporting to the General Manager, the Security Manager will focus on the daily functions of the department to ensure protection of staff, guests, residents, property assets and equipment at 3 Civic Plaza/ Civic Hotel - Autograph Collection; ensuring guest and associate satisfaction while achieving the operating budget.
Leads and acts as a liaison in administering fire prevention programs and emergency preparedness.
Conducts hazard and risk assessments at the property to include quarterly safety audits, incident tracking, and the hazard abatement process.
Demonstrate excellent surveillance and emergency response skills as well as follow Duty of Care towards guests and associates.
Strong commitment to security rules and knowledge of all hazards and threats to safety. Ensuring follow up on all unusual activities in and around the property that would impair the well-being of guests and associates.
Responsible for recruitment, review and training of all security officers in conjunction with Civic Hotel’s policies and procedures.
Provides regular motivation and mentoring to all staff to encourage on-going professional development for succession planning purposes as well as via department meetings, objective setting sessions, performance appraisals, coaching, counseling, and discipline towards the Security Team to establish and maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service.
Completes associates performance review in a timely manner.
Manages the activities of all direct/indirect reports to and contractual staff ensure the timely achievement of department goals and objectives, within prescribed policies, procedures and standard business practices.
Maintain good communication and work relationships in all areas of the building with emphasis on teamwork, close working relationships with other departments and assertive hospitality to serve as a deterrent to crime.
Be available 24 hours a day for genuine emergencies within the property.
Respond to all building/hotel emergencies, including guest and facility related emergencies.
Assist with the emergency procedures, including fire alarms, evacuation or lockdown
Be able to provide personal assistance, medical attention, support, as required.
Suggest, create, implement policy/procedures as required to maintain safety and protect the facility from any real or perceived threats
Proactively assist in patrolling and monitoring of the property to prevent fire, theft, and vandalism, while conducting visual inspections of the building (maintenance issues, repairs, etc)
Liaises with the Director of Rooms through regular meetings to provide and maintain the highest level of Security & Life Safety services and resolve or prevent issues.
Develops and maintains Disaster Recovery Plans, Emergency Preparedness Plans and training to ensure Civic Hotel Security & Life Safety staff can effectively deal with any disaster situation
Provides direction and training to staff and tenants on Emergency Preparedness planning and Disaster Recovery Planning
Ensures that the team completes and distributes all Incident Reports in a timely and accurate manner.
Assists in negotiating major service contracts for the Security Team and ensures contractor compliance to agreed standards.
Directs investigations and reporting in response to thefts, break-ins and other complaints and ensures timely feedback to tenants and senior management.
General security auditing duties example but not limited to -access keys, cards and CCTV system)
Approves all invoices and purchases for the department.
Prepares and administers departmental budget and associated financial reporting.
Prepares long-range plans for the introduction of new, or upgrading of existing Security & Life Safety systems or programs, in conjunction with the capital planning for the centre.
Ensures effective use of all technical media available to the department for communication, loss control and the preservation of life and property.
Maintains current knowledge in security systems, equipment and techniques.
Ensures effective relationships with all Emergency Services and appropriate senior officials are in place and maintained.
Active member of Civic Hotel’s JOHSC
Education & Experience
Undergraduate degree, or Community college diploma in Law and Security, Law Enforcement or similar discipline.
7 years or more experience in law enforcement or security/life safety industry or equivalent combination of related education and experience
Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) an asset.
Minimum 2 years management/supervisory experience in the industry.
First Aid Certification ( Level 1 or Level 2 ) must
