Ormidale Block

Ormidale Block in Gastown is a contemporary office building completed in 2018, designed to preserve its historic façade. Located at 151 West Hastings Street, the building is now home to Spaces Gastown coworking and sits on the southern edge of Vancouver’s heritage district. Now held by Allied REIT, Ormidale Block delivers an energy-efficient workplace within one of the city’s most recognizable historic settings.

The project involved the complete restoration of the original Romanesque façade along West Hastings Street, preserving the architectural character that defines the block. Behind the retained frontage, a modern office structure was built, featuring a geometric rear elevation facing the Woodward’s development. The result is a thoughtful blend of heritage conservation and contemporary design that strengthens the surrounding streetscape.
