Southlands Cottage Courtyard Display Opens in Tsawwassen
To show some of the planning principles of the Southlands proposal — which emphasizes the importance of linking small-scale farming with residential communities — we’ve created a full-size display called ‘The Cottage Courtyard’ complete with a small-footprint home, water feature, and public gardens.
For the cottage, Century Group partnered with Smallworks Studios, a Vancouver-based company known for their laneway housing, to build a full-sized prototype at the Tsawwassen Town Centre Mall. Designed by Cotter Architects, the resulting home is exactly how the cottage-style homes would be built at Southlands. The cottage also represents the “missing middle housing” sought after by Tsawwassen residents.
The actual Southlands neighbourhood would include more than just cottages. The proposal also includes a mix of townhomes, live-work studios, and apartment-style housing. If approved by the Corporation of Delta, it would be the first project of its kind in Canada.
The prototype home opens its doors August 18th, and we invite all community members to experience what it might be like to live at Southlands in a cottage of your own.
