Southlands Bike-in Success!
Thank you to the hundreds of people who joined us for our 2nd Annual Southlands Bike-In! We would like to express our gratitude to all of the volunteers and organizations that helped make our 2nd Annual Bike-In such a success. We had a whopping 500 – 700 people from the community attend the festival and as the event promotes sustainable transportation, we were happy to see that over 200 people rode their bikes!
The event also raised over $3000 for Reach Child and Youth Development Society. Since REACH is one of the four key organizations that Century Group supports, we thought it would be great to partner with them on this event to help raise awareness of their organizations and the services they offer in the Delta community, as well as help them raise money for their new facility in Ladner.
There were lots of activities to keep everyone entertained including a tractor-led hay ride around the Southlands property, which many guests really enjoyed because they were able to see and experience just how expansive the Southlands property is and learn more about the future plans for the property. O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife offered two great “Birds of Prey” raptor presentations and Earthwise provided tours of their garden. A festival wouldn’t be a festival without food trucks, and we had two great ones – Hearthstone Meats and Boundary Bay Lions serving up lots of delicious fare. Our beer garden served a variety of Central City Brewers Red Racer craft beer, which are all brewed at their brewery in Surrey, BC.
Thank you to O.W.L. Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society for providing live raptor presentations; the Earthwise Society for providing garden and farm tours, Delta Law Office and Central City Brewery for hosting the beer garden; Project Pickle, Mario's Kitchen, Hearthstone Meats, Boundary Bay Lions, and Tsawwassen Saturday Market for providing such delicious food; Delta Bike Company for providing bike repairs; Urban Bee Supplies for their live bee demonstrations; and South Delta Artists Guild for providing a bike themed artist display – we really appreciate your contributions in making our festival such a success!
We had almost 20 Century Group staff members volunteering at the festival, and others that came to take part. We’re so happy that this event, which we introduced last year, has been embraced so warmly by the community. We believe bringing people together for family friendly gatherings is what helps to build a sense of community and we look forward to continuing this event in the years to come.
