Special Valentine's Day Lunch for the Surrey Urban Mission
In an effort to make our corporate sponsorship initiatives more meaningful and impactful, Century Group has recently changed its approach to community outreach. Over the next three years, rather than supporting numerous organizations with one-off donations, the company will focus its sponsorship dollars and partnership initiatives with four key organizations. One of the organizations that Century Group has chosen to partner with is the Surrey Urban Mission, providing both volunteer and in-kind support.
We thought that it would be nice to do something for Valentine's Day and decided to sponsor one of the lunches of their meal program. The Coast Tsawwassen Inn generously provided the food and also let us use their kitchen to prepare the lunches (supervised by their head chef of course). The meal included an assortment of sandwiches, fruit and a special Valentine's Day treat. We had lots of staff members volunteer to do kitchen prep, make sandwiches, put lunches together, and deliver them to Surrey.
The staff that went to Surrey and handed out the lunches all really enjoyed the experience and thought it was the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day – giving back to others. The recipients were also very appreciative of our efforts.
The Surrey Urban Mission receives no government funding and relies solely on donations and volunteer support. Despite the lack of funding, the organization has been able to provide a variety of programs and support to those less fortunate in the Surrey Community. We look forward to further building our relationship with this fantastic organization as well as the community of people who rely on it.
